german photographer birgit richter's recent subjects include women who clean houses. richter creates the portraits in the homes where the women work.

filmed in los angeles, everything is original offers a brief behind-the-scenes exploration of one particular photo session, as well as its aftermath, negotiating the space between richter and her subject, a mexican immigrant who, like the photographer and the film's director, is a foreign national working in america.

director's statement: what i initially found interesting in birgit's project is that she chooses to focus her energy on people who are often overlooked in this society. and in so doing, her camera records a dignity in these women that has always been present yet is often never acknowledged. with this project, i hope that more people will take a look around, wherever they are, and discover something similar.
